Did you know that the Australian Government has a program that provides access to up to $1,158 in dental benefits to children? This means that through the CDBS program eligible children’s dental care is bulk billed to Medicare.
Bulk-billed Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is an Australian Government program that provides access to up to $1,158 in benefits to each eligible children over two calendar years, covering most general dental services. The CDBS cannot be used to pay for specialist services like orthodontics or services provided under general anaesthetic.
For eligible children, dental services covered by CDBS that are redeemed at Bowman Dental are bulk billed by our practice to Medicare.
Is your child eligible for CDBS?
Children are eligible for the CDBS if they are:
- aged zero to 17 years for any one day of the calendar year
- eligible for Medicare
- receive or their parent/carer receives at least one Australian Government payment at least once a year. Check eligible government payments here
Services Australia will usually notify you if your child is eligible or you can check Services Australia.
Ways to check eligibility
You can check you child’s eligiblity in a number of ways:
- online through myGov, if the account is linked to Medicare.
- you can call Medicare on 132 011, or
- you can call us at Bowman Dental and ask our team to check your child’s eligibility CDBS for you. We can also check the value of remaining benefit funds for each child.
Where can you use your CDBS funds?
Your child can access dental care using the CDBS through:
- most private dentists – Yes this includes Bowman Dental!
- public dental clinics in NSW
- NSW Health school-based dental services
- Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
If the full value of the child’s benefit is not expended within the first 12months of the two year period the remaining value can be taken in the next 12month period. Once the 24months has passed the $1,158 expires and if eligible the child receives another $1,158 in funding for a range of dental health services.
